Introducing Our Co-Sponsor:
Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis

  Issue 5 - September 2025

We are pleased to announce that Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis (AOI) will be the Co-sponsor of the APAO 2026 Congress and will present three symposiums in our enriching scientific program.

AOI traces its origin to the Act of Foundation signed on March 7, 1975. It is organized and operated to conserve the ethics and preserve the history of ophthalmology, to enhance education in ophthalmology and allied fields, and to promote and advance the science and art of ophthalmology among all peoples and nations. It is a university-centered international organization committed to excellence in education, research, and culturally appropriate medical services to preserve and restore vision for people of the world. Currently, AOI’s Active and Emeritus membership represents 33 countries around the world.

We thank AOI for its continuous partnership and look forward to insightful exchanges that its expertise will bring to our event!

We extend our sincere thanks to the Scientific Program Committee for their exceptional work in shaping the scientific content of the APAO 2026 Congress. This dedicated group of 136 experts from 24 countries and territories has been instrumental in curating the 19 subspecialty programs and the wet lab program that reflect the latest developments and best practices in ophthalmology.

The deadline for submitting English abstracts to the APAO 2026 Congress has been extended to September 29, 2025 (23:59 Hong Kong Time). If you have yet to share your groundbreaking research, now is the time to log in to our congress system and take action!

Chinese submissions remain open until October 20, 2025 (23:59 Hong Kong Time). But we definitely encourage you to start early and avoid rushing the writing process. For more details about the requirements for abstracts in both languages, please refer to our submission guidelines.

For the first time, the Best of the Best Poster Discussion Competition will be held during the APAO Congress. After our abstract reviewers shortlist top posters from each subspecialty, their presenting authors will be invited to present live to a panel of expert judges. Session winners receive the Best Poster Discussion Award certificates at the award ceremony. More excitingly, the overall champion takes home the Best of the Best Poster Discussion Award — plus an iPad!

Beyond this new acclaim, we will also celebrate excellence through a range of annual awards. Please watch these videos to find out more:

Don’t miss the chance to apply for our travel grants by September 30, 2025! Competition is keen — It is highly recommended that you allow ample time for submission to avoid any last-minute hiccups.

Another key deadline to note is the end of the early bird registration period. Register for the Congress by October 30, 2025, to enjoy a discounted rate!

All young ophthalmologists attending APAO 2026 are invited to join "Mission Explorer", a brand-new activity designed to enhance your congress experience. Participants who complete a full list of designated events (to be released closer to the Congress) will stand a chance to win one of the five special prizes, generously sponsored by Roche.

Alongside the academically stimulating scientific program, APAO 2026 offers an array of events where delegates can network with peers. Check out our Social Programs web page and mark your calendar accordingly!
