Welcome Message by COHK President

  Issue 8 - December 2025

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Greetings from Hong Kong!

The College of Ophthalmologists of Hong Kong (COHK) is honored and privileged to serve as a co-host of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Congress in February 2026, held in conjunction with the 37th Hong Kong Ophthalmological Symposium. Together with our local partner, the Hong Kong Ophthalmological Society (HKOS), we extend our warmest welcome to delegates from across the globe.

Since its founding in 1994, our College has played a pivotal role in advancing ophthalmology in Hong Kong. As one of the 15 Colleges under the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, we oversee the training and accreditation of ophthalmologists, ensuring that each new generation of specialists upholds the highest professional standards. Through rigorous education and continuous assessment, we help maintain excellence in clinical practice across both public and private healthcare sectors.

Beyond our domestic commitments, we believe that international collaboration and shared purpose are essential to the growth and resilience of our field. By fostering an inclusive and supportive environment across all sectors: public service, academia, and private practice, we can collectively move the profession forward and inspire future generations of practitioners worldwide.

Throughout the four-day APAO Congress, we encourage you to engage in meaningful dialogue with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, sharing insights that will enrich your practice and broaden your perspective. Your presence and participation are deeply appreciated, and we thank you for your support for this important event.

While you are here, we hope you will take time to enjoy the mild and pleasant February weather in Hong Kong. Explore our city's stunning skyline, lush hiking trails, and iconic landmarks—from Victoria Peak to the Star Ferry. And of course, don’t miss the chance to savor our world-renowned cuisine, from street food delights to Michelin-starred restaurants. Let Hong Kong's vibrancy and charm add a memorable touch to your congress experience!

We look forward to welcoming you in person and sharing this exciting journey together.

With warm regards,

Hon Wah YUNG
President
The College of Ophthalmologists of Hong Kong

Join us at the APAO Fundraising Run! This year, half of the donations raised will support our APAO Gateway Project, which organizes training, public health education, and eye care programs in Asia-Pacific developing countries.
